Install the automatic companion

The local menu-bar app owns the randomized timer and screen-covering reset. It never reads your screen, prompts, or code.

Connect the plugin

The ReApp installer can do this for you. For a manual setup, add the marketplace and install the plugin, then start a new task.

ChatGPT setup

  1. Install the Mac companion above if you want automatic screen-covering pauses.
  2. Open ChatGPT settings and turn on Developer Mode.
  3. Open Plugins and create a new MCP-backed app using https://ai.reappofficial.com/mcp.
  4. Save it and ask: “Set up automatic ReApp pauses on my Mac” or “Give me a 60-second ReApp reset.”

Manual resets request fullscreen when ChatGPT supports it. ChatGPT cannot silently wake an MCP widget on a random timer, so the local companion provides that automatic layer.

Codex setup

  1. Run the two commands shown above from a readable terminal directory.
  2. In Codex CLI, open /plugins, or open Plugins in the ChatGPT desktop app, and confirm ReApp is installed and enabled.
  3. Review the bundled session-start hook before trusting it. The hook only wakes an already-installed ReApp Mac app; it does not inspect task content.
  4. Start a new Codex task and ask: “Give me a 60-second reset before I continue this task.”

How the hybrid works

The native Mac app schedules automatic, screen-covering pauses. The Codex SessionStart hook quietly wakes that installed app. ChatGPT and Codex can also render a manual reset, request host fullscreen, and expose user-initiated links back to the companion. A public MCP plugin cannot silently take over your Mac screen by itself.

Beta expectation

The MCP service is production-hosted, but the public OpenAI listing is not yet approved. Developer Mode and the GitHub marketplace are intended for testing. Report anything unexpected.
